Default What kind of engine hoist do you have?

Im ready to drop in my new beta with elantra tranny in my tib with a couple of friends and the only thing I dont have is an engine hoist to pull the old engine and put the new one in. Thinking about maybe just renting one from an auto place since I dont ever see using it more than just this one time. I could be wrong but I dont know. What kind of hoists do you all have, and will any hoist work for my project or should I look for something specific?

My first engine hoist was made from 4 2x6's and a couple of chunks of 2x4 on the feet to stabilize it. That and a come-along. Worked fine. I've since upgraded to the cheapest stand I could find on sale at tool town. Pretty sure most of them are made in the same factories with different paint jobs. The higher end ones are probably made better but then again our engines are like 150-200lbs anyway.

Central Hydraulics from Harbor Freight. I have no complaints, it lifts engines.

Quite frankly, it's a bit of a stretch to say you need a store-bought hoist at all. An A-frame made of 4x4s and a cable or rope on a block would probably be more than enough. For perspective, I took out the assembled short block from my parts car with a sling . . . across my shoulders . . . barely.
