What can you do to reduce the hp to whp ratio?
To me, the only thing that matters is whp. So when people talk about how much hp they have, I just shrug it off, like when Manufacturers boast about how much hp their cars have. So what kind of things can be done to make the ratio between hp and whp closer?

ehh.. shot peen the trans internals to make the smoother? Better oil to reduce friction.. make a lighter trans. You talking about the power it takes to spin the weight of the transmission. Not a ton you can do about that.
You can do other things to free up power, but that would be an hp and a whp increase so the ratio stays the same. |
Pretty much anything you can do to decrease the mass and and increase the efficency from the crank output to the tire contact patch will increase WHP figures also making sure everything is as linear as possible so keeping suspension in tune. But like said above it only really increases the power transfer efficency from engine to wheel.

The easiest thing is to get some small lightweight wheels.

Auto -> Manual transmission conversion
|
Decrease friction, rotating mass, and parasitic loss.

Lighter trans internals, slicker trans oil, lightened half shafts, lightweight wheels.

and no brakes

Make everything as stiff as possible. Every bit of metal between the crankshaft and contact patch is soaking up energy, as well as the bits the engine and transmission are hanging off of. So a better approach may be to reduce the number of parts, and to use a solid medium to hang the engine in the bay. Yes, its me again. domodance.gif |
