Well as i was puting redline in today (what a diference)i noticed water coming out of the lil hole on my water pump. this means the water pump is going out and i need to replace it. well i'm gonna do it myself sence i refuse to take my car to any garage. soo i have a few questions for those who HAVE done it.
ok so here goes do i need to take off the front and side motor mounts or just the side? would it be easier to drop the engine to replace it or jack it up? it doesnt look like i have to take the timing belt cover off to do this am i correct? do i need any special tools for this or basic tools will do it? any tricks or time savers? this should be a unbolt and bolt up thing rite? any advice will be appreciated. smile.gif Bump. i'm gonna be doing this today somone give me some advice!!!!! all these boosted tibs and no one can tell me anything about the water pump hitwithrock.gif |

anyways silent if your goin to do the water pump get a timing belt and some coolant your gonna have to remove some pulleys to get to it so be aware of that and you might as well replace your drive belts while your at it also look up hmaservice and find out some info on it |

you WILL make a mess with this believe me so if you have a dog/animal/small children/redzman keep them away or they will try to drink the coolant
its a pretty difficult process and make sure its on tight or you will be doin it again again do a timing belt at the sametime as youll take off most of that stuff anyways |
yes, when you remove the pipe that goes to the water pump (behind the headers) you will need a pan of some sort to catch ALL the coolant that will spill from the block.
Go to webtech. Select info for 1997 Hyundai Tiburon. Look at far top-right for Search button. Click it. Search field replaces menu on the left, type in: BLOCK HEATER and you will find a detailed description of almost everything you need to do. |
I remember Hyundai saying that their pulleys are only ment to be tensioned once, so you should be getting new water pump & gasket, timing belt and tensioner pully, and might as well do the other belts at the same time. unless yo've done a timing belt or know someone who can help, I wouldn't do it.
My beef is that the water pump has a lifecycle of 60k which is low compared to other cars. 3/4 people that I know that got their timing belt done at dealerships were never told about the coolant pump. |

i changed my first one at 125k and it span fine and was practically perfect only reason i swapped mine was cuz i was doin a timing belt
i say if it aint leakin dont worry about it until the timing belt is due |

In all the times I bought from kspec I NEVER had any problem with them... what do you mean not to trust their shipping? Or dou you mean their packaging? I am changing my belt pretty soon and for the price kspec is offering the kit+the water pump, I pretend to have both changed. |
