valves ticking, changing oil filter question.
 

-i have been using synthetic oil and fram filters for the life of my car and in most of my other cars with no problems.
-when my accent hit about 100,000 miles the valves would almost always tick when cold. i just assumed it must have been redlined b4 (wife or famlily borrowing car) so i began to check into beta swaps. now i have recently learned that fram filters cause our engines to tick so i want to change over to a wix.
-my question is when i take out the oil filter am i going to have a bunch of oil hitting the floor (assuming of course i let the car sit overnight before i do this). I dont think it should but i've never changed the filter without changing the oil so i dont know if our cars hold any oil under the valve covers or if it all drains down to the oil pan like most other engines.
-i have a 2002 accent with a 1.5l alpha and a fresh oil change (thats why i dont want to loose anymore oil than what the filter holds)

You mean it has to do with the oil filter or the air intake filter?

As soon as I put on my K&N SRI intake on my car and it hits below freezing I hear ticking not to loud but noticeable inside the car.

assuming that your oil filter is like most other car filters Ive seen, your always going to have oil left in the filter if its at an angle downward. unless you have a clear path to remove the oil without tipping it your going to have the same oil leak out as if you were doing an oil change.

thats what i assumed but the amount of oil in the filter is no more than 1/4 of a quart and i keep a spare guart at the house plus im 30 miles from the nearest town. dont wanna have to buy more than i need.

i have a feeling you're going to lose a lot of oil. why not just wait until you need to do an oil change? i don't think running with a fram a little longer is going to kill you.

also, i've heard that OEM hyundai filters are what we should be using, that's what i use everytime

Yeah, use OEM or Wix filters and you'll be fine.

If I remember right a significant amount of oil leaks out when you change the filter. If it's too big of a concern, catch the oil in a clean container and pour it back in after you change the filter.
