Okay, I don't know jack about transmissions/components. I'm hoping this isn't something serious..

First of all, the car has 140k, at 100k, an engine/transmission from a 2001 that had 30k was installed. So, the trans should only have about 70k on it.

A couple weeks ago, I was on a road trip, 4 hour drive, on the highway, cruising in 5th, when all of a sudden it popped out of gear and went in neutral. The actual shifter itself moved too. It was pretty weird, I didn't know what to think. Then, about 20 minutes later, it happened again. The car seemed fine, I just kept driving.

About 3 weeks go by, car drives and seems fine, no symptoms or shifting problems or anything.

Now, making another 4 hour trip, on the way there I noticed that the clutch seemed "sticky" is the best way to describe it. Like when you push the pedal down, it would take a second delay before it returned. Drove the 4 hours there fine, no issues other than the "sticky" feeling in the clutch.
On the way back from this second trip, the car popped out of gear again, just once this time.

What is wrong?

Thanks guys

Possible causes of the gear popping include:

excessive backlash on the gears,
loose or worn engine or transmission mounts,
a worn or broken shifter detent spring,
pilot bearing worn,
bent shift fork,
worn synchronizers,
shift mechanism worn or out of adjustment,
transmission not aligned.
