I didn't realize that you want 5sp because I saw you post about 6sp tranny as well and assumed that you wanted a 6sp one since they are the ones that come with shorter gear ratios. Beta2 tranny actually has longer gears so you don't want that. Not sure about 5sp on V6, but it must be the same as 6sp regarding configuration and mounts. Please read the thread that I gave you. You will find many answers there! Trust me!! |
the gear ratios are fine as is... i was just wondering about shifter throws and the ease of gettin from 2nd into 1st because an rd2 tranny blows at it..they are all sloppy and unsure...the 03 tibby 5-speed has shorter shifter throws, but about the same ratios...am i right?..i read the thread good help, just a little fuzzy on the install.

I don't think it's worth to change your tranny over shorter throw... what STS are you using? RSIDE adv has a very little throw, and if you cut it even more it will be very very small, although going into 1st at anything above 10mph will suck with any transmission... there is a special feature that prevents your tranny from overreving and stuff. |
I do not know what you guys have done to your transmissions... I can drop from second to first anywhere from 30mph on down...
|
well its not just the shorter throw...this is the 3rd tranny im on and im sick of it...the newer ones are stronger and i can tell my current tranny is about to go because of how it launches and just seems to be a lot sloppier than before...so i figure im changing it out so why not get a newer stronger tranny...does anyone know what parts i may need to do the swap?
|
Maybe you should look into your technique if your going through trannies that much on near stock power...
Mad, I dunno why, but mine does it to. It refuses to downshift into 1st from around 10mph on down... I also thought it was some feature to keep from over-revving. My other cars downshift fine into first. |

There is no such thing as a 2002 Tiburon. The 2002 Elantras used the Beta 2 5 speed, and yes, it should bolt right up. Jaws has one in his car. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>i really want the shorter throws because autocrossing with a tibby is a pain in the @$$ even with a short shifter the throws are long.</div> What short throw shifter do you have? <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Also, does anyone know if the tibby was made in a 6-speed in Korea because i hear there was one for an rd2.</div> No, there wasn't. There IS a 6 speed Beta 2 tranny available in Korea, and NOW in the US too for the Santa Fe I think (I could be wrong). The Beta 2 6 Speed SHOULD bolt up (a search for 6 speed would have found all of this info), but why bother? You'll be shifting more often and only using the 6th speed at like freeway speeds. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>and about how much it would cost without shipping.</div> If you could get one, prolly about $1800. With the size and weight, it would cost prolly 500 to ship at LEAST. That is a VERY bare minimum estimate. You need to search my man, we've talked this 6 speed shizzle into the ground. |
