Default Tranny/engine swap

I am looking to swap out my 2001 tranny, but will a 2002-up 5-speed fit...i really want the shorter throws because autocrossing with a tibby is a pain in the @$$ even with a short shifter the throws are long. can anyone help me cuz im not far along enough on my project to justify a custom/race tranny.
Also, does anyone know if the tibby was made in a 6-speed in Korea because i hear there was one for an rd2. and about how much it would cost without shipping.

hey man. did u happen to search the forums? i believe this has been covered many times before. so if u didnt already i would do a search. but as for your question, i dont believe the GK's tranny would mount up and yes i have heard of a RD 6 speed but many people would find it useless to go though all that trouble for an extra gear.

... thats my opinion anywayz

yes, a beta 2 transmission will fit your beta 1 engine as the block is the same. there is a 6 speed transmission, but i've heard it would cost you several thousand to get it over here...not worth it at all. if you're going to spend $4,500 on a stock transmission that's probably weak like the 5 speed we have, it's really not worth it at all.

^^ Yep. Any of the newer Elantra and Tib Beta II Trannies fit. Whether they are better, I dunno. Stock tranny really isn't horribly weak.

Either way, throw distance shouldn't be effected in any way with a new tranny from a Beta II. Don't see how a shorter throw would help much anyway, even on the stock tranny its possible to shift too fast and wear down the synchros real fast.

i should have been more specific...i meant would a 5 speed for the inline 4 out of the GKfit my RD2...as for the shifting, it is much shorter and tighter in the new tranny and it helps a lot on the downshift from 2nd to 1st during autocross. and as for synchros wearing out...its the least of my worries because i only need the tranny to last a year until i have my project engine done, which will thrash a stock tranny.

Obviously you didn't do a good job searching... took me one try and less than a minute to come up with this thread:

;/ Whats the difference between rd1 tranny and rd2?.............................................. .........................

And if you planning for an engine that will kill a stocker tranny, why are you looking to swap? Why arent you looking into custom built trannies?
