Torque plate for Beta

Hey guys,

I'm not sure how many of us are out there with beta 1 engines but just seeing if anyone would be interested.

I'm going to be doing some work on my block for my new setup but there are no Torque plates available from searches I have done to help with the process.

So I'm getting BHJ to build one for me and I was thinking if anyone else needs it at one point, I can rent it out.

Other option is the shop I'm getting the work done at in Edmonton will buy the Torque plate if he has more than 2 engines that will come to him. He is the best in Alberta and I wouldn't trust my block with anyone else. Just putting out some ideas for people who want nothing but the best for their setup. Some people may think a torque plate is overkill but I have heard horror stories when shops haven't used it and you have some very angry customers. It's just piece of mind in my own opinion, if you don't want a blown motor or one with lots of piston slap.

So what do you guys think?

I may be tempted in a bit when i pull my tib's original block to rebuild it f/i. Have a beta II with f/i waiting for me to get enough time to swap.

I forgot to mention it was a Beta 1 from a 2000 Tiburon.

So I did some research on torque plates and the principle behind it is to simulate the bore distortion with the head and gasket in place when honing the block to help with ring seal and what not.. that's if I'm not mistaken. By any chance, is this for the stock bore of 82 mm or no? Might be something I'd look into when getting around to my rebuild.

It is for 20 and over the stock bore.

How much is this plate?

BlueSpanishShark 09-06-2013 12:20 PM

Since this is the first one made that i know of it was more expensive. It was about $628. That includes tax, shipping and brokerage charges.

That is the problem with my project because everything I wanted there are no parts for it. I'm sure everyone that has an RD1 and 2 ran into that problem. So i decided to go custom and have my shop do a lot of R&D work.

This will still work for Beta II users who arent looking to go with oversized pistons, but most who build a motor go with an oversized piston.

Well it is there and I can always rent it out for a good price. Of course there will be a upfront security deposit that I would have to charge to protect my torque plate. After it is returned you will get your balance back. Everything would be done by paypal and if there is enough interest maybe this topic can have sticky on it.
