I was wondering at what time do I have to change the timing belt and chain, some told me at 60k KMS I personally thought it was at 50k KMS. which is right? someone also told me the belt lasted past the 60k mark.

I am wondering this cause my tib just hit 50k+ so I was wondering if I should wait til 60k or change it now...

it's every 60,000 Miles. You should be able to last until 80,000 but 60,000 is good.

Well, where I live, the dealers say you must change it every 60 thousand kilometers. In the US they say it's every 60 thousand MILES; that is like 98 thousand Kilometers; so... who's right?
I assume it has to do with how fast you get to those numbers, in the US distances are very long, and people tend to drive a lot (here I do like 8k miles a year; and I use my car every day and in summer I go to the beach every weekend driving 120 miles round).
I think you should be OK even with 70 or 75 thousand Kilometers, but, you shouldn't wait more than 8 years to change it, what ever comes first.
Also, when changing the belt, if you have the money, change also the tensioner, that ****er makes a very LOUD noise, you will actually notice how smoother your engine feels after changing that. Also, there are two pieces of vulcanized rubber that prevent noises from the chain between the two camshafts, they cost like 3 bucks each, change them as well, you will feel your car as new.

I worked as a mechanic at a Hyundai Service center, and we changed timing belts every 60K KMS !!!! So 60K miles is a little dangerous... This interval is used for all Hyundai engine's except diesel engines (don't really know if you understand the word diesel, i hope so...)
