Default Re: Update needed

hey yall, i'm new to the board and this is my first post, so sorry if this thread is sorta a repost.
i've been having a lot of problems with my tiburon lately and i want to get some advice on what yall think i should do and i'd like to know if any of yall have had the same problem with your tiburon, and if so, what you did about it.
first off, my car's a 2001 automatic. i'm already on my second tranny cuz something happened with a bearing and it was covered under warranty. ever since i got my car (used, in 2002 with only 8200 miles on it), it's had a stalling problem. it started about a week after i got the car, and stupid me, i didn't want to take it back to the dealership cuz i was so excited that i had just gotten it. at that time it was a really random thing that happened. it would stall (just like it would if i had a standard and took out the clutch too fast) only when it was cold outside and only right after i started the car. now, a year and a half later, it's doing it all the time. and when i say all the time, i mean, whenever i come to a stop in my car. it'll stall right after i start it, and if i'm driving and come to a stop at a stop light or stop sign, it dies. lately i've gotten so used to it, that i give it gas right before i stop completely and i've gotten pretty good at keeping it from dying. it still tries too though and i can even watch the rpms drop really low while i'm sitting still. it also seems to be trying to die while i'm in the middle of driving. i can be going like 45 and i'll look down at my dash and watch the rpms drop to 1000 or something.
last october i took it to a dealership and told them about the problem, but that was before it was as bad as it is now. they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it and i left, still having the problems. i want to take it back to another dealership because there is obviously something wrong, but i've heard that hyundai doesn't offer loaner cars and i can't be without my car again. i already had to do without it while it was getting a new transmission.
have any of yall heard of this happening to a tiburon or has it happened to any of yall's?? i'm getting sooo frustrated with the whole thing. i love my car, but this makes me want to get rid of it and never buy another hyundai as long as i live. any suggestions on what might be wrong with it? would it be covered under warranty? is there a way i can get a loaner? 02.gif

I used to have the exact same problem on my Elantra. It would randoml stall, usually while rolling to a stop or sitting still. It got bad enough that I would shift into neutral while stopping.

Unfortunately my car was totalled a year and a half ago, so I was never able to figure out the problem.

it sounds like a simple adjustment of the idle will fix the problem. you dont know how, post back and ill actually make a detailed post about it.

There's a screw with a white cap on it to the right lower side of the opening. You can tighten it with a screwdriver to raise the idle. I don't think that's the problem though.

I've heard of a few problems with the Idle Air Controller (IAC). It's a problem with mitsu's also. Check your connection for that. It's the 5" cylinder on top of your manifold that hums when your ignition is on.

Another cause could be your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). There have been a few that would go out after a while, especially with automatics. I believe it's the Dae Sung brand that goes bad. That is the 1" black box on your throttle body.

edit: There is a TSB for the sensor. They will replace the crappy Dae Sung with a newer Kefico one for no charge.

The reason why your oil pressure will drop is because your motor is stalling. It's not turning the pump fast enough if it drops below 800rpms.

hey whats the tsb number of that recall or do you have a link for it? i was trying to find it the other day and i couldnt locate it.

your stalls are more then likely an idel issue, just turn up your idel a little and it should be alright.

Default Exhaust Question

I had a stight stalling problem on my Tib a while back. I adjusted the idle and replaced the plugs and pcv. Later on the wires too and that really helped. Do you know when the last time a full tune up was done? I mean like the plugs, pcv, air filter and such. Primarly the plugs and pcv.

Default Lets get a group buy on these :)

i haven't noticed my oil pressure dropping, i'm not usually paying attention to that though, i'm too busy staring at the rpms. actually, i haven't had a check up or tune up done. i got a letter the other day that said i was due for me 30,000 mile check up, but i'm not really wanting to spend the money on that right now. i guess it's a good idea though. i'll try and see if it's an idling issue, but i just have this weird feeling that that's not what it is. thanks for the input guys, and if yall have any more suggestions, let me know!
