So My New Oil Filter Is Dripping!
Recently changed my oil and filter and noticed after driving around for a hour a drop of oil had formed on the filter housing.
I thought i might have misthreaded the filter so i drained ze oil again and removed and replaced the filter, hand tightening it nice and firm.
After going for another drive tonite i see the same drip has formed again! Should i just get the oil filter wrench and tighten the b**** up or should it be drip free when you hand tighten it (meaning that i have a bigger problem) ?

You don't need to drain the oil pan to change the filter. But there will be a lot of oil falling out of the filter when you take it off.
I second what jongtr said on both posts. If you do what MadJohn suggests I wish y ou mondo luck removing it for y our next change in 3000 miles. Hand tightening has worked for me and my dad for over a decade.

It should be hand tight and there should be no leaks. Maybe the drip you see is old oil from removing the old filter or maybe it is from oiling the seal on the new filter. Check to be sure the filter is tight and wipe off the oil from the filter and around the base and see if it comes back.
i wonder if its double threaded, im f***ed if it is because ill have to replace a big hunk of the engine
could be the oil from the seal as i put a bit on so i might just keep an eye on it as a leak would be a constant flow of oil

also, make sure you didn't "double gasket it". drain your oil again, and make sure that the seal on the oil filter "is there", properly seated, and that there's only one seal. look at the block and make sure there's not another gasket hanging there before you put it back on.
yeah i checked that last time when i ensured that the male part of the equation was clean
i have a weird feeling that the oil thats leaking is excess oil from the oil i put on the seal and its dripping out when it heats up and becomes runny.
Will wipe it and keep an eye on it, will jump under while the engine is running to see if theres any leaks
failing that it would be a f***ed filter
