shark racing short shifter

someone near me might sell me one. anyone know how good they are? also does anyone have pics? SR.com isnt selling it anymore so i dint know what they look like

01tibby 03-03-2005 08:34 PM

its supposed to be ok, definately better than the ones you can buy off ebay.

you do have to cut up your shifter base though.

mb1604 03-03-2005 08:38 PM

why would you have to cut it up? it makes no sense, throw should be shorter lol

Alex01tib 03-03-2005 08:39 PM

i think hes talking about the shift boot, so its not so saggy. i think. i had a aftermarket boot but after i painted i didnt like how the aftermarket boot looked so i resized the OEM w/o cutting, i think i have a pic somewhere...

and dont totally put down ebay short shifters. i got a B&M off ebay and its very nice, fit perfectly, and that sucker is solid too

01tibby 03-03-2005 08:47 PM

nah, the plastic peice that is under the shifter.

fonseca, if you see this, post that picture you had up in your FS thread please.

Alex01tib 03-03-2005 08:50 PM

oh, well in that case my B&M didnt require any modification. just pulled the old one out and put the new one in. i did it in the dark too lol...

Oh thats the problem with my x girlfriends car.. thats why i always missed or ground 2nd.. it was kinda notchy and figured it was hittin just never got the time to fix it.. to late now... hahaha

REDZMAN 03-04-2005 03:22 PM

The Shark Racing SS is actually the RSIDE BASIC shifter, and yes, it sucks balls.

sdashia 03-11-2005 12:33 PM

DO NOT get this shifter.I have it and it sucks balls. Besides having to cut the shyt out of the plastic base plate to get her to work, it still had play in it and i had to fab bushings to make it not have 3 miles of play in it.

mb1604 03-11-2005 12:38 PM

didn't get it, lol, soon as i heard you had to cut, i was like nope

fonseca 03-11-2005 01:03 PM

Well, I used it for several months, and it honestly shifts great. Just as well as the RSide Advanced *when the baseplate is properly cut*. I couldn't tell a difference between the two when shifting really, so if you can get it cheap, go for it. I sold mine for $45 shipped IIRC including baseplate and part of the OEM shifter so the buyer didn't have to do much modification or disassembly. That's about $90 less than the RSA.

Here's the downsides:

-Shifter baseplate has to be cut.
-Not adjustable like the RSA.
-It's ugly. Big difference in quality of construction.

The RSA is a thing of beauty. High quality construction, nice machining, highly adjustable, and comes with a nice knob. But if you can get an RSB used for a good price...

Compared to the RSA:

Edit: Based on my experienes with both shifters, I'd say that it's absolutely essential to have no more than 2mm of play in the control arm where the bushing enters, or you're asking for a majorly embarrassing problem. Picture blocking a lane during rush hour because the shifter bushing popped out of the control arm. It ain't a pretty picture.

UltraTibby 03-11-2005 01:10 PM

Damn, its not that bad. I had one in my car for like 50k miles. Just took it out for an ARK one because I am not impressed with RSide. Yes you would have had to cut, no it doesnt take more than 10 minutes to do and no if you install it right it does not have a lot of play with the stock bushings.

REDZMAN 03-11-2005 06:17 PM

^^^
You got the ARK shifter?

Traitor.

LOL

Show us.

UltraTibby 03-11-2005 11:01 PM

I will take a crap load of pics tomorrow (Today now I guess lol) and will start a new thread about it. Hey I figured I would give them a try, had to be the test rabit lol.
