Is this safe?
Ok In preparation for a race meet with my almost stock 2Gen Tib, I decided to try to make the Random Special but couldnt due to time contstraints....so me and one of my buddies ran to Pep Boys and I picked up a cone air filter (approx 6 inches in length), and also a bottle of that NOS octane boost. So me and my buddy get back to my house and take out my stock airbox completely and install the cone filter directly onto the existing black intake tubing..my buddy told me that the air sensor previously in the stock air box couldnt just be left dangling, so he decided to attach it inside of that big boxy fan thing that sits in front of the engine bay and connects to the airbox....He installed the sensor in the tubular shaped part that connects to the airbox...anyway I put in the octane boost too and when I finally got to our spot I noticed HUGE gains in speed and pickup...can anyone please explain why this is working so well for it being such a cheap setup without any actual intake tubing being used??? Im not complaining about my added power, but the pickup gains are VERY significant...thanks guys

The Cone Filter on the MAF is allowing much better air flow over stock. That is why you are feeling more power. The Intake Air Temp Sensor should be placed as close to the air filter as possible with that type of setup. It sounds like he put your IAT in what was left of the old resonator. I would move it to the cone filter. Duct tape it there if you have to, just leave the temp element (end) open to the air near the filter.
It works great when the car is cold, but once your engine get's warmed up, and under hood air temps raise up into the 150's to 200's, you will notice a decrease in power. A "real" CAI would still pull cold air from outside the engine compartment and give you better gains overall. [edit]: Yes, it's safe, as long as you move the IAT to near the filter. thank you so much...you guys are quick as hell! any opinions on NOS octane boost?

If you don't raise the compression of your engine, you arent going to notice a difference. (except the plecebo effect) The reason being octane is just a measure of the resistance of gas to self ignite under pressure. The higher the number, the higher the pressuer the gasoline will take before self igniting.
