About 3 weeks ago I installed my Rside Short Shifter using REDZ DIY. Everything went great, and I love the shifter! But today I got in the car and its all F***ed up. I also did the adjustment to keep the shifter from hitting the cup holder/surround. When I put the car into 1st or 2nd gear now it wacks the surround even worse then before. It got all sloppy on me. 5th and Rev. are also kinda sloppy. The movement up and down is ok but from left to right is really sloppy and the shifter travels to far in either direction. Also when I move left or right there is a clicking. I checked and the spring seems fine and everything is lined up ok. But lets say I put the car in 2nd gear I can feel the spring pull on the shifter and I can't push it to the right but I can push it far to the left (the sloppyness). Does anyone have any idea what could have happened. I drove the car all day and it was fine, then I went out to it a little later to go somewhere and it was like this. HELP!

It's no big deal, I had the same problem the other day with mine. You know the little white plastic peice on the bottom of the shifter that the little ball goes into, it fell off, it seems that it was made a little loose and after it wears in a little it just falls off the shifter. I think everyone who has the r-side shifter will have this same problem sooner or later. The only quick fix I could come up with was to take the shifter apart, pop the little white plastic part back onto the shifter, put a light coating of JB Weld around the outside of the white plastic part and then slide it back into the hole in the shifter lever and quickly put the rest back together, let it sit a few hours for the epoxy to dry. I did this and now the shifter feels better than it did before since the JB Weld filled up any play in the bushing.

thanks man, I'm not too sure what your talking about exactly but I think I can figure it out from what you posted.... umm if you have any pics that might help... : ) Thanks for the info though.... I'm gonna pull the thing apart in the morning.

****EDIT****

I pulled the shifter apart today and I saw the bushing MaxxTib was talking about. Mine didn't fall off completely but it was almost all the way off the metal ball onthe end of the shifter. I decided I didn't want to JB Weld the plastic bushing into the ring that it sets into so I just wrapped the bushing in some teflon. I wrapped t enough so that it almost didn't fit back into the hole I had to push it in there really hard. I put it back together and like MaxxTib said it feels even better than before. Much tighter feel to the shifter now. Thanks again!

nice someone said also to replace the 2 white plastic bushings that conect to the cables with metal washers, and also on the tranny side, there are rubber bushings, im gonna try and find a washer that will fir inside the eyes of the cables, and also that has a hole that the shifter pins will go thru

Yeah, I had the bushing pop off on the interstate. All of a sudden the shifter got REAL sloppy. I put it back on and haven't had a problem yet? I had only had it in for a week before that happened. It hasn't done it since. Make sure that you put plenty of lube on it, that may be the reason it is falling off, too much friction between the sleeve and the bushing, pulling it off the shifter.

My bushing popped off so I heated a metal plate with a torch and when it was hot enough I put the open side of the bushing on the plate and melted it down like a 1/16. Cleaned the outside up with a utility knife and trimmed the inside untill it would press back on using alot of force. Put tons of grease inside most came out but at least it's lubed! So far so good!
