Default REDLINE on 2k3 GT

Is this possible.
I have the Auto tragic GT and I know you can do this on some cars (never tried it myself) and that is bypassing the line that goes to the ECU that carries the RPM information..

Why I wonder is that if you did could you in effect kill the rev limiter. (by using a switch you don't need to do this all the time)

The reason is I would like to shift a little higher up as well as shift down.. In the auto if you are say at 25 and in 2nd you can't shift down but 1st goes to 40..

I had a situation with a Rice ball yesterday that I really needed to go to first and I was only doing 25.. and 2nd gear at 25 is No power at all...

Thanx

From the limited seat time i've had in the Automatic V6....

at 25mph, you've only got about 5-10 MPH left in 1st gear. While it "should" be possible to downshift into 1st at that speed, I can see why the ECU wouldn't let you, and why it would not do it itself when you floored it.

Cutting the RPM signal to the ECU/TCM would probably trigger an immedate CEL, not to mention totally screw up the ECU, as it would have no idea when to pulse the injectors, or fire the spark plugs.

Ok so it looks like then the ECU gets its data from the tach and not sensors on the crank ETC...

No, the ECU gets it's information directly from the sensors. The tachometer gets it's information from the ECU. You cannot interrupt the crank angle sensor line because, just as Random pointed out, the car would immediately die. It would assume the engine is rotating at zero RPM's and would apply fuel and ignition for such: ZERO

What you are thinking about is the SPEED sensor and overriding the speed governer that used to kick in at 123-125 on the older Tiburons. As far as I know, all the Tibs after 1999 don't have it anymore.

I was driving a GS-R around the past couple of days, and I noticed that with the 6spd, there doesn't appear to be a rev limiter. The redline on the tach looks like it's at about 6500 but I had it up to 7k.

The Auto V6's aren't the same?

There is definately a revlimiter in the Tiburon. Put the car into neutral (while the dealer isn't with you) and your foot on the floor... You'll find it.

If you don't like that method, just stuff it into 1st gear and put it to the floor until it stops accelerating. You WILL find it.

There is a really good article in Motor Trend this month with the stock 03 Tib and the race version...

The race version was tested at running 0-60 in 5.4 seconds! It didn't have many major upgrades to it either, and it was 400lbs heavier...I am just going off what my friend told me, I am going to pick up an issue tonight.

Actually the Gran Am version 0-60 was 5.75 I do believe and the mods were:

Cam
Exhaust
Headers
CAI
New Computer
400lbs less weight

I actually got in contact with one of the people who worked on it and the thing dyno'd at just about 200 ponies at the rear wheel....

But they also did say that they are going to put out parts down the road just no eta yet...

The race version was tested at running 0-60 in 5.4 seconds! It didn't have many major upgrades to it either, and it was 400lbs heavier...now that would make a difference.
