Default Question about intake hoses

I have a question about the 2 hoses that go into the TB from the stock Intake Hose..
What do they do..
Here is a link with them removed

I see that some people have taken them off or removed them in order to add better piping for a CAI.. I am just curious as to what they do..

The one behind the Intake is the ISC (Idle Speed Actuator) The idle speed control actuator is the double coil type and has two coils. The two coils are driven by separate driver stages in the ECM. Depending on the pulse duty factor, the equilibrium of the magnetic forces of the two coils will result in different angles of the motor. In parallel to the throttle valve, a bypass hose line is arranged, where the idle speed actuator is inserted in. (he he HMAservice Description) When it is hooked up, it helps relay to the computer how fast Air is being sucked in, helps adjust things like Fuel and Air mixture. (I think)

The front piece, I don't think, does much. But hook up to the Valve Cover.

The one behind has to be hooked up so the engine will run better, and you won't get a CE. Hope this helps a little.

That setup is for a MAP equipped Beta engine Only. Tryptik, since your in Canada, with a 1997, you've got MAF.

You MUST leave the IAB (Idle Air Bypass) hooked up so that the air it sucks in is read by the MAF. If you try that mod on a MAF equipped motor you will have serious idle problems, and serious high RPM lean problems.

For the MAP equipped cars, you MUST leave that IAB hose connected, but you can disconnect the "other" crankcase breather hose.

The crankcase breather hose sucks in air at low RPM and spooges out air/oil vapor at high RPM. If you just put a breather filter on there, you will have oil mist all over that breather filter, and eventually, on all components around the breather filter in your engine compartment.

So...the short answer is...leave both connected!

Thx for the info.. But is there any way that I could remove the "big" intake hose and still have those other 2 in the there.. Thinkin about drilling 2 holes but not too sure how to keep them in there..
Any suggestions..?
