Yaya motor and gearbox mounts

Long time no post and all that.

The supercharged beastie has pulled the bolt in the gear box mount clean through, fortunately the garage have been able to re-tap it.

The stock mounts are shot, now I know I can get a polyurethane engine mount from KSpec, but does anywhere do a gear box one?

Thanks

Hmm... really? I've never had any problems with that. You could poleyurethane fill them, same as you would a motor mount. I dunno how filling those will effect idle, etc. Might be best to get new stock ones.

I think David has access to tranny mounts too....

If not him, then Rick @ Real Engineering might.

I remember one of the two saying something about them. But I dont remember which it was.

Here are some pictures of what I need, quality isn't great as I took them with my phone.

Its the mount on the right hand side of the engine as you look at it

I have the front and rear yaya engine roll mounts. The engine does not move at all with these on them. It is pretty rough tho so you may want to get a stock mount for the gear box and then replace the two roll mounts with the yaya ones. This will stop the engine from torqueing so much and should prevent you from having this problem again.

I was just going to get the one at the top on the left side and the gear box one replaced with a poly bush, so hopefully that won't be so bad.

Or is this not a good way to do it?

Which ones are the front and the rear?

UltraTibby 02-28-2005 10:23 AM

The front and rear are the oposite ones that you are talking about. If you jack up the car and look at the cross member under the engine you will see two mounts on it, one on either side of the engine. Those are the front and rear mounts. The two you are talking about (one of top of the tranny and on the side of the engine) are the side mounts.

I think I read somewhere on this site that replacing the side mounts is not recomendable because then a lot of engine vibrations are transfered to the body and it becomes unpleasant to drive the car as a daily driver. You might want to ask a little more on that Xorro.

^^^ Yeah I have been told that too. Thats why I have not looked into getting the second set. You feel a lot of the car vibrations with just the front and rear mounts. I could not imagine having all four. It would probably feel like the car is falling apart.
