Problem installing CAI

I just got my KORE CAI in yesterday and started installing it today. Everything was going fine until I got to the part where you attatch the K&N filter to the pipe. Once the filter is on, it blocks that black plastic flap (not the one I cut the hole in, the one that is attatched to the part that goes around the wheel) and I can't put the two screws in that are supposed to hold it up. I cut my hole pretty much exactly like its shown in these pictures and it looks like all the other holes I have seen cut for CAIs. Are you not supposed to re-attatch this black part? Its held on by many more black nylon screws up where the tires are, and thats all one big piece. I'm not really sure why its not working...any help would be greatly appreciated (can't get the car up and running until I figure this out sad.gif )

SPEC-A?

Naw, he doesn't have a Revision-A tibby. Check his profile. He has a 2001.

I eventually figured it out...just had to move the hole to a different place than in those pictures. It needed to be a bit more up and to the left so it would fit into the fender well. Hehe, now I have one huge hole in the plastic guard. :D

Hey, you're not alone,

Same thing happened to me, I cut the hole on mine way to low and had a 5 inch long oval hole in my mud guard there. :-) The hole was pretty bad, so I just went to the Hyundai USA site and ordered another ($30), picked it up at my dealer the same day. That online parts catalouge comes in handy sometimes!

I was wondering if I might be able to get a new plastic piece, but if figured it would cost a ton. $30 isn't too bad...do you remember the part number of it offhand? I'm going to the dealership next week anyway to get some touch-up paint, so I might as well ask them if they have it in stock then.

Are you guys talking about a CAI going into the fender area? Or just near the tranny?

Random 08-10-2001 02:28 PM

Into the fender area, through the plastic shield that seperates the Engine compartment from the fenderwell.

For the Elantra, the part # for the left side Mud Guard is 29130-29010.

Try going to https://www.hyundaiusaparts.com/parts/index.asp and choosing your make/year. For some reason, a search for Mud Guard did not work for me, so I had to click to it.

So... click on "Engine", then "Mud Guard" and there you have it!

I have found that this site comes in really handy when ordering parts or taking stuff apart on your car :D !
