Default posible to have to much air?

Is it posible for your car to get to much air? I am thinking about making a custom air intake that will give mass air to the engine. Cant give details yet till i do it then i will post pics and stuff its hard to explain. I dont think it can get to much but i dont want to mess up my engine.

I do not think so.. I thought it was the more air, the better..

I am actually guessing that if you ram tons of air in the engine that you better have a good way to get that out as well..
I guess, yes it would make sense that it would bog down

u have too much air when there's not enough fuel to burn in it, lol. this is called running lean, and is a great way to blow up your engine. smile.gif

Precisely, add more air then add more fuel. If you add considerably more air without sequentially adding the appropriate amount of fuel you will lose power or worse damage your engine.

I don't think it's possible to get too much air into the cylinders unless you are talking about forced induction. Normally the chemical equation requires 14.7 gr of air to burn with 1 gr of fuel, that's theorical. You never get that proportion exactly, actually, as Red (it was Red right?) the ECU on Betas run richer (to prevent runing lean, or to prevent loss of power due to lack of fuel, or many little more considerations such as refrigerating the combustion chamber in case of excesive temperature, etc, etc).
To compress air into the cylinder could cause an "Excess" of air, but I think it would be virtually impossible to force more air than needed in a normally aspirated engine. I also think you shouldn't mess with your intake manifold with severe changes. Air dinamics is simple, but it requires a lot of research, and trial and error to achieve a good setup, so stick to what's known here in the SR forum, such as bored, honed, etc IM and TB, and a good CAI. I mean, don't do anything that has not been proven with your IM or you could end spending a lot of money (of course if money isn't a fact for you, go on have fun, and the share with us).
Of course it would be very interesting to discuss your project, so that we all could learn something.
Just my opinion.

ok for right now i am removing one highbeam light. i am taking out the plastic and everything then i am running piping from there into a filter then to the mass air flow sensor. that way it is getting mass cold air. this is all in planning if that works then i might do the same with the second high beam to. i have to plan out a couple more things. then trying it will keep everyone posted on it. Tell me if that sounds good or bad.

I'm confused as to how it's going to get air? You going to cut a hole in the front of the headlight casing too? Cuz if not then you're just gonna give your engine a hard time getting air.

i am copeltely taking out the highbeam fixture and everything. there will be a big hole where the high beam was since it is a 01 tiburon. i am putting a big pipe there then having the air filtered, pretty sure i have that planed now but hard to explain on how i am filtering the air.then the pipe is running to the mass air flow sensor. i will post pics and more info after i finish my project might start it tomorrow lets hope it works. if the one high beam works tehn i might do the other on the same way have them form a Y.
