ok, well I still need to get that passenger side fan installed but I'm still overheating even without a/c on. After the coolant flush of my previous thread it helped alot, but now it seems to be coming back (it's like 95 outside).
http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?showtopic=16901 So how can you tell if the water pump is crapping out or if it's just the thermostat? the fans were running when it was overheating so I'm guessing that it's the pump. is it prossible though that it's just going out a little bit because I never have over heating issues at night, just in the middle of the day when it's the hottest. But I'm going to be heading down to Houston soon so I've got to get this taken care of first. |
replace the thermostat first there is no hurtin if you do it first
the waterpump will cost you hundreds...thermostat is 8 bux or so start out with the cheapest |
do your fans come on?
|
a water pump only costs 100 bux at advance auto, and if you can change a timing belt, you can change a water pump
btw the bearings crapped out on mine so i had to change it |

well i said hundreds cuz its like 150 at hyundai... plus you still gotta drain the fluid again
and you might as well swap out the timing belt while your at it i cant remember if you could get to the water pump without removing the timing belt |
eh I just did the timing belt 20k ago. and the pump has it's own accessory belt, don't think you'd need to pull off the timing belt. I'll look in my service manual.
edit: anyways is it possible for the pump to be clogged up/just not pumping as good as new? I am only running one fan, (which I intend to fix this weekend) but it seems like it's having way to hard of a time keeping cool for just missing one fan. Maybe I'll just put in that other fan and go from there before I take the time to swap out a pump. |
