Default Oil Pressure Sensor location

RANDOM, can you tell me where is the oil pressure sensor located at. What color is the sensor plug? Is it the black or the gold tone plug? I'm trying to install a guage. I just don't know where it is.

thanks

CHeck this pic

It is right under the "7" in blue writing. Go down about 4-5" you see a plug there. That is the Stock Oil Pressure Sender.

However, your Oil Pressure Gauge should have come with it's own sender. There is no way to tell if the gauge you bought works with the same voltage as the hyundai pressure sensor. Install their sender off one of the oil galleries off the head.

Well, how do I do that. I'm sorry man, I'm new at this kinda stuff. Most of the stuff I know, I learned from the forums. And it's been helpful.

Thanks for the help...

Look at this pic

There is a coolant hose in this pic that is in the shape of a "u" (routed back on itself). The Upper run of that hose...right above the hose clamp, there is a screw in the engine that has a "hex" head. it appears to be screwed right into the head. If you remove that, your pressure sender should screw right into that hole. That is where you should put it.

Yeah me and my bud couldn't figure out the size either. He said he would a bring a tool from work that they use on mercedes to get the plug out. Be careful don't strip it, the plug is like cemented in there! We put heat to it and used a hex key that was a close fit but it still didn't want to budge. frown

I've tried removing in on 2 different engines. I was unable to get it to budge. I think they must use Loctite on that plug.

Heating it should break the loctite, but becareful that you do not overheat it or you will melt/bake the valve cover. I have been unable to confirm this by attempting it myself, it is just a theory.

Just wondering...has anyone checked to see if it is reverse threadded? I know I didn't....

Actually Random, from looking at Webtech's schematics, the stock oil pressure sender is just a switch that activates at 10 or 7 psi. No voltage, either on or off.

In fact, it never goes near the ECU, when the switch is on, the oil light goes on in the dash. When it's off (high enough pressure), the light in the dash goes off.

EDIT: Just saw the bit about not getting that plug out. I had the same problem. Couldn't get a metric or US hex wrench to work. I bought a set of screw extractors and am going to try them when I get my gauges (probably next month). I'll let you know if that works.
