Oil light on

Lately in the mornings when I start my car, the oil light comes on for a few minutes. If I turn off the car and turn it back on, it goes away. I assume it's because of the cold weather and the oil is really thick. Is this common though or do you think it could be leading to a problem with my oil pump?

First, go buy an oil pressure sensor. They're cheap and go out often on all vehicles. I believe around $10.

Actually... First, check your oil level after the car sits over night.

Probably just thick oil if the light goes off after you the engine warm up a little and gets the oil flowing.

Make sure the oil is full first. Make sure you are using an OEM or Purolator Pure One or similarly high quality filter. Specifically, do not use the cheapest FRAM filter. If it's been a while, treat your engine to an oil change. If it's super cold, get an oil with a super low "W" number like 0W30.
