so midas checked for my oil leak and they say its the camshaft position sensor. the seal around it has "gone bad".
i dont know if this is true or not but there is oil underneith it and its dry on top of it. they said they could see oil dripping but i didnt see any actually dripping it was just wet underneith. bottom line is they are tryin to say about 180ish to fix which i think is too much. anyone have any thoughts on this or know about this sensor causing problems for anyone else? should i just pull the part and do this myself or is it hassle to even mess with it. |
if the rubber o-ring around the CMP is damaged you can just get a new one, its not 180 bux and its friggin easy to change.
|
Clean your engine and then find the leak. It's easier that way. If it's that sensor, a o ring is probably less than 50 cents.
|
hmm i'll have to do some callin around tommarow see if i can maybe find a new sensor for cheap.
i'll post pic up in mornin. also can i buy just the o-ring or do i need to buy the whole sensor? |
Take the sensor out, get a ride to autozone or somewhere, and show them the sensor. Tell them you need a oring for that.
Or, verify that it's the o-ring first, like we said. |
if only this were an hour earlier i could go to autozone. but they close at midnight
|
just took the car to dealer today. they verified that it was the o-ring AND they fixed it for only 49 bucks. the cheapest i've ever come out the dealer and it fixed the leak like a charm so far.
|
too bad an o-ring is like 10 cents and would have been cake to change. thats the kinda thing i wish more people would tackle themselves.
