I was wondering how long I should go between oil changes. I use Castorol GTX Synthetic motor oil.

Ever since I have had a car, I changed my oil every 3,000 miles. However, I just started a new job and I usually put over 150 miles a day on my car. I do not want to change my oil almost twice a month.

I know that synthetic does not break down like regular motor oil. I have read that synthetic will last 40,000. Obviously your oil filter will not last near that long and no one in there right mind would go that long without an oil change.

So, what do you guys think a good interval would be and what is the reasoning behind it?

Default Oil Change Intervals

switch to semi-blend oil, full synthetic's molecules are too small for our engines, i use castrol semi-blend with a purolator every 3k.

Well, that will save me some money.

But, should I still change it every 3,000 miles (about every 2 weeks for me)?

EEEEEWWWWWW semi blend. Get the real stuff smile.gif . I use Castrol Out Performance full synthetic. Yeah it may cost $4.99 per qt but it is still nice. I go about 6k between changes of the filter and oil.

Default Re: what kind of subs?

I have 48,000 miles on my tib.

If I go 6,000 miles between changes, that will be about once a month. I can do that.

Man, it is about time to move out so I don't kill my tib driving from Peoria to Bloomington every day.

if you are doing all highway driving.. I think 6k between changes is no big deal.. especially with a good synthetic... And I do not think that the molecules on full synthetic are too small.. modern engines are put together a LOT tighter than the engines of old...

I have been running Mobil1 since the car had 3000 on it.. I change between 3 and 5 thousand with no problems.. not even a top up between.

Yup all highway!!!!! But yeah I agree about the synthetic. If you have a newer car with less than say 60-70k miles on it you should be safe using full synthetic. Older cars however will leak from every place they can with full synthetic. If you always run synthetic you wont leak (unless something is wrong of course), it is only when you switch from regular to synthetic that you have a higher chance of leaking (just from my experience).
