OBX Exhaust cam gear Yay? Nay? Also Q's on Cam adjustment
Well in a couple of weeks i get payed and I was wondering if the OBX cam gears they sell overt at Ebay.com perform similarly to the RSide one they sell over at kspec.com
I looked at the close up pictures and it actually seems as though the obx gear is more precise in terms of advance/retard degrees. Course this is just looking at it, i may be completely wrong. Still for $89 shipped it's a tough deal to pass by.
I was planning on getting the Jspeed crank pulley, the OBX cam gear, and the Rside intake cam chain gears. However i have some doubts about how to actually adjust the intake cam. I asked awhile back at the old kspec forums about this but David said he had to ask Rsdie about it but never got to post any answers. See, if i buy the the exhaust cam gear together with both intake/exhaust chain gears, the exhaust would end up having TWO adjustable gears. And theres the question about if I have to remove the cam chain in order to adjust the intake cam. :? Anyone that has bought both sets of gears have any answers?
Another thing that I was thinking about while reading the "Free cam sprocket mod", is if the the intake/exhaust cams are LINKED together by the cam chain, wouldn't adjusting the exhaust by either, exhaust cam gear, of ford's "mod", also RETARD the intake cam at the same time? Thereby negating the positive effects of retarding the exhaust cam? It seems reasonable to me that if they are connected, obviously if you adjusted with the chain on you would be adjusting both of them... :?

yes I know that, thats what the adjustable INTAKE CAM chain gears they sell on KSPEC.com are for. My theory is that with thos eadjustable chain gears there is no need for the exhaust adjustable cam gears:

I'm confuzzled 8O
I always thought that when you bought them they were manufactured to be pre-adjusted to a certain point, and you would see gains. The crank and the cams rotate off of different sprockets so retarding the intake/exhaust is actually a good thing, because in comparison to the crank the cams are at different angles than stock.
I dunno, this is just my 2 cents.

I'f you see this picture you know what I mean:

Heres an actual pic:

As you can see both cams are connected by the little chain on the side that faces the Battery. Now, picture yourself doing, lets say, fordfasterr's cam timing mod where you move the big cam gear connected to the exhaust cam on notch. Now looking at the pics youll see the when you move the exhaust cam, since they are connected by that chain, youll be moving the intake cam as well. so if you move the exhaust cam counterclockwise to retard it, youll be retarding the intake cam to the same extent.
Of course thats what I gather from intuition, I'm still waiting on David on the Kspec forums to answer to my post. Then we'll know for sure... I hope anywayz.

Yes if you do fords mod, you will advance/retard both cams. I'm not sure if this is good or not. With the adjustable cam sprockets you can adjust the cam timing for ex/in independantly for optimum effect.
Exactly, now what Im getting at is the need of the separate exhaust cam gear if you were to buy the two little adjustable chain gears kspec sells. As you can see in the pic they are both adjustable. Therefore there wouldnt be a need for that cam gear at all.
That's correct IMO. There is no need to get the adjustable main gear (that the timing belt runs on) if you are getting the sprockets.
