I recently had my head planned, when i got her home and tore the plastic off, it took me the better part of 3 hours to clean up the machine shops mess before i felt comfortable that I had it all out before I installed it ( I was pissed!).. ..I would check as you said for obstructions in the passageway somewhere.

I had time this week to get in and see what was going on. the "regulator" is actually just a one way ball and spring valve.

i could see something stuck on the side of it when i first got the head off, and after pulling the spring and ball out i found this:

it's a big gob of silicone! must have been from when i first put the motor back together (i used silicone on the oil pump, it was soon replaced with a gasket because it was leaking... i wonder why)

the retainer on the valve is plastic and it broke when i pulled it out, so i made a metal snap ring retainer to replace it. the valve goes for 20$ from the dealer

oil pressure to the head is back up to 31 psi and no more valve tick smile.gif i don't think anything was too severely damaged as a result.

ps: don't make the same mistake i did!

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Great success! I was wondering WTH was the point of the last picture, ten I looked closer. Good job being willing to go back in for another look. I'm glad you got it going.

Moral: NO ENGINE ASSEMBLY when you're tired.

You may just for good measure just pop the cam caps off just to see the bearing surfaces...those are usually the first to get badly scored when there's low pressure to the head...

I know this is digging up an old thread but do you happen to know the part number or any other info on that valve. I can't find anything on on it apart from What you posted here. I know almost nothing about hyundai's. Just trying to rebuild one for a friend.
