My fricken POS intake
Ok, so I have a variation of a Random special CAI running from my fenderwell.
Today I'm changing the APC filter I had on the intake and I see the metal cover (cap like thing) on the top of the filter has fallen off into the fenderwell. This made the intake suck in air with no filtration. Anyway... I have a little bit of a temper; so I rip out the filter by the intake tubing and start smashing it on my driveway then I hurled it acrost the street. So what is left is the tore up filter without the cap. I have noticed a slight change in the breathing of my car since Christmas so I assume this all happened about 2 weeks ago. I have driven my car probably 400 miles since then. The fenderwell had dust in it and it has the little holes in the bottom of the the fenderwell exposed my intake to dusty/dirty air. My question is was the damage done by this defective POS APC filter? Or am I cool? It seems that my car is still running fine. Is there any tuning/preventative maintenence I should do? |
The engine's still running, you're fine. Yeah, 400 miles with no filter sucks, and there may be some scoring of the cylinder walls, but it shouldnt have done too much damage.

u may want 2 do engine flush... the same thing happened 2 myu car... see kore filter post

Hmm...
I'd change the oil and maybe run a fuel system cleaner thru it. Just to be safe. Get a big bore brush and run it thru your tubing to clean it out (Detached from the car of course). Wipe out your TB and IM where you can reach. Bout all I can think of. Oh, might want to make sure your MAP/MAF (I forget which one we've got) honeycomb screen is not clogged up at all. |
Well, i put the stock intake back on and cleaned up my TB and the manifold and changed the oil. It seems to be running ok.. i have huge throttle responce now that i took the intake off.
Wierd... maybe my car hasn't adjusted yet. Thanks for the input to everyone. What do you mean by <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Get a big bore brush and run it thru your tubing to clean it out (Detached from the car of course)</div>What tubing do I run it though? Are you refering to the intake? Because i beat the living hell out of it and tossed it across the street... |
