To much Torque
 

OK last wekk i was out driving when i ended up racing a cougar...well i took off the line hard and fast and all the sudden my engine started to vibrate really bad....at idle the whole car shook..I took it in to the dealer to see what was wrong and at first they really had no idea..they later said the entire engine twisted on the motor mounts and they had to lossen the mounts/let the engine resettle and retorque the nuts...they said this could only be caused be the engine twisting from hard acceleration....

has anyone else had this happen or heard of it happening?

my car now runs fine but that does worry my if the engine twists from torque that much.

More than likely, your engine mounts were loose from the factory, or they have vibrated loose over time. They did probably have to loosen them up further to get the engine to settle in right, but it is my no means a common occurance.

If you think about it, the motor mounts a manufacturer provides should be capable of handling the output of the motor/transmission they put in the car, under just about any conceivable driving condition.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I sure as hell hope they didn't charge you for it.

With the HP/Torque figures I'm putting down, I have YET to duplicate that feat. Ditto for Red, or any of the other highly modified Tibbies. I would simply call it a fluke.

my car makes over 230 ft/lb of torque.. estimates of an 80HP nitrous system...

i havent had that problem either.


when using nitrous, the typical engine makes more torque than HP...

alright man,... thats a little off,... especially with an autotragic

you should get your car dynoed,... youll be surprised

if your torque reading is that high,... your likely to run into piston problems, cause they eint that strong.

Yeah, i'd have to agree with JAWS 'cause i have a friend with a '99 Z24 Cavalier and he dynoed his stock with 139 hp and 135 ft.lbs. of torque at the wheels stock and then ran a 75 shot of NOS and dynoed 205 hp and 195 ft.lbs. of torque at the wheels.

It would be a wise thing to dyno first before you say what you have. You'll be suprised!
