Default MAP Replacing MAF

Why has Hyundai gone from MAF to MAP on the Elantra 2001+ while they are keeping the MAF for the 4cil Tiburons 2001+? They used to have the exact same engine and bolt ons.
Is it that MAF is better for tuning purposes and they think Elantras don't get as much attention? Is a MAP sistem way cheaper than a MAF? Or why?

The 2003 Tib 2.0L also is MAP based. They share engines again with the 2001+ Elantra. The 1.6L in the Accent is MAP based also.

Ok, so, there were differences only between the 2002 Elantras and 2002 4cil Tiburons?
It would still be interesting if anybody could explain or speculate about the reason for the change, because as far as I know, MAF would give more acurate readings. Also, is this new generation MAP different from the cars with MAP sold in 99-01 in Europe and Korea?

They're just trying to standardize platforms across all continents. As far as I can tell, North America was the only place to get the MAF sensors in Hyundai cars -- everyone else in the world got MAP.

This may have been for OBDII reasons or who knows what else, but that secondary manufacturing line raises Hyundai's assembly and manufacturing costs.

Platform, engine and electronics standardization makes a company a lot more streamlined and profitable -- when possible. It's likely that the ECU's going into the 2001+ Elantras and 2003+ Tiburons will all be almost identical to those in Korea and everywhere else in the world -- at least physically. There may be slightly different programming in the EEPROM for emissions, power, available gasoline and etc.

If you happen to have one of the MAP based engines...possibly.
