Loud Exhaust

I have a magnaflow performance exhaust on my 99 tiburon...not the best exhaust, but it does the trick. I was wondering how i can make my exhaust louder. I already have the power/performance that I want out of it, but now i want the deep resonating sound. I want the noise to be a head turner. I am about to put a weaponR short ram air intake on my engine and i was told that would beef up the sound a little. SOME ONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT.....?

Your intake will make the intake louder, but not the exhaust. Go to a muffler/exhaust shop and have them remove your Resonator, and install a straight pipe in it's place. That will do what you are looking for.

i did cut out the resonator and replace it with straight pipe...any other suggestions???

You can try to hollow out the muffler...but do it too much and you will get REALLY LOUD. It also will shorten the life of the muffler.

You can go with headers...either 4-2-1 or 4-1. Either one will make your car LOUD.

how do i go about hollowing out the muffler??

hollowing out? the magnaflow muffler is a straight through design. you can see right through it. anyways, J&L how is the magnaflow muffler? i was thinking of putting one in. is there any noticable power increase? and how does it sound?

To hollow out a muffler, you just hammer a long piece of pipe or steel re-bar into the inside sides of the muffler to "open" up the sides. If you hollow it out completely, you will get a louder sound. You can always replace your muffer with a 12" glasspack.

whats with ppl wanting loud mufflers? the most impressive muffler I heard was brullen's super flow cat back on a 1.8T golf, no tone no exhuast note, just air rushing out like a jes a steady swishhhhhhh as air rushes out. It dynoed 15 whp over stock to.

Hey Brendan I read in a post that Brullen was making a cat back for the Elantra, what do you know about this & do you have a link?

Brendan Jul 16, 2001 07:37 AM

it will be a CAT and back system for Elantras with headders ( tibs to ), my car is the test bed and I'm guessing hiflow cat and 2.5" all the way out, there will be a resonator in the pipes and resonated quiet tip, Brullen likes quiet systems ( as do I ) so you can enjoy a relaxing quiet spin around town with little exhaust nosie, rice boys will not know what you have etc. Like I said it's way more impressive to only hear air rushing out and seeing it rather hearing a loud exhaust. Brullen is at www.brullenexhaust.com
