I think the 1.8 cam is the safe one to get. The 2.0 intake cam found in 2000 Elantra and newer 4cyl. Betas is the controversial one. It is supposed to make more power because it has a higher lift (or something like that-someone correct me if I'm wrong) BUT it has a little metal nipple sticking out which effects timing. --Because of this, people have said this changes the cam timming 5degrees-no one knows if it adds or retards the timing. ALSO somone a while back stated that a Dr. Wu (or some Dr. with a similiar name) stated that he had done test on this cam and found a drop off in power at high rpms. Others have said that the increased lift on the 2.0 wears the internals quicker.
I installed this 2.0 cam in my first motor over two years ago. It did make a difference. I'd say between a 1/10th to 2/10th 's on the quarter accoring to my Gtech. Felt it around 4grand and after. Everybody's car is different with different mods so don't expect this on yours. I had this cam for 20,000 miles and two years with no problems whatsoever BUT I havn't even thought about putting one in my new motor as I don't believe it's worth the LONG TERM RISK. You make your own decision.
The 1.8 cam is the safe bet in my opinion but like I said earlier, I didn't have any problems with the 2.0 cam.

Put the cam in last night... learned a couple good lessons.. 1 if it wont start, learn to count... 2 if it wont start the second time, get a extra pair of eyes to look at it... They pointed out that I had not reconnected the fresh air intake to the valve cover.. Car wont start without seeing air movement... OOPS!
So anyhow, got it in and working well.... went for a spin on the highway... I noticed that there was definitely some more low-end torque. I also noticed that prior to the new cam, when I would get up to 4500rpm I would get a surge of power... That surge is no longer there. But there is still plenty of power... I would have to say that the power-band has simply been spread out, and starts much lower in the rpm's. The motor sounds a little different idling... more "lobby".. Its quite nice...
Overall I am very happy with it..

I have had my gt cam for almost 40000 miles. No problems yet, my motor seems strong and I don't have the "ticking" from my valve area that most people complain about. My idle, from what I remember when I did it, seemed a bit lopier, but I don't remember much from back then. It is an easy install, and I don't think that I have had the timing issues that other people seem to think will happen. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Sharkbyte, I'm glad to hear that your cam is in and working well. It is much easier than everyone thinks, isn't it?

Yes it is... Before I ordered it, I talked to a few friends - they all thought I was crazy to be going "inside" the motor. Well nuts to them! It doesnt even take more than 1 tool to do it (10mm deep socket). I mean wow, it doesnt get much easier than that!
I do hear a faint ticking from the motor - but I always have.. simple solution is turn the music on. I know where the ticking is coming from - its the cam position sensor.. If it ever annoys me enough, I'll replace it.. no biggie.
