Hey I come from a tiny town also, but from what I'm told, they are good. They help quiet down loud a** exhaust and you can still pass emmisions. (where I live I don't have to do this but its only a matter of time) Plus I have header's and I'm soon getting the cat back so why not do the cat also. Gotta keep it environment friendly!

High flow cats do make a difference... did that shop tell you that a high flow muffler is wasted too?

LOL, yeah, you need the high flow cat to help burn off the excess gases and to take the more extreme heat. A header with a stock cat will eventually burn up the baffles and you will need a new one anyway.

What I'm lookin for though is some recommendations on brand? Is there a really difference between brands? Do some quiet the exhaust more than others?

Actually, I mentioned one in a past thread on the same subject. You should try a search next time mang.

Random Technologies.

They supposedly make the BEST high flow cats.

Well I just placed my order for a Random Technologies Cat! Along with an order for one of the very few remaining MBRP cat back systems... If you want one you better order now! I think the woman that took my order said that they only had about 3 left . I can't wait till this stuff shows up and and I can get it on my TIB!

Glad you are getting the stuff.
