Ok, I started this in the resonator removal thread but it's too involved to leave there. The rectangular piece of metal that holds down my battery, well doesn't. The long bolt that tightens it just moves freely. I'm thinking I either stripped the threads or the threaded part of the bolt slipped past the nut that's welded in. Any suggestions? Here's a couple pics.

This is how the bat. tray looked when I first removed the bat. I've since flipped the plastic piece over and cut the sides a little to allow the battery to fit into it.

This is the bolt in question. The original owner had about an inch thick piece of metal between the frame and the piece of plastic under the metal plate.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Well then yes you must of stripped the bolt or you tightned it past the night and thats why that guy had a spacer there. If its past the nut get some vice grips and pull while you unscrew it.

Tried that and it didn't work. If it's stripped what are my options? I don't really want to leave my bat. loose.

yup. take the bolt to an auto parts store and find a tap set so that you can make a new thread. it should have instructions on how to do it on the package. they are expensive though.

You could use some of the info on how to make a new mount on my DIY.

anybody know how universal that mount is? If it is the same for the Elantra, he could probably hit any junkyard

I ran for 2 years with my battery loose. As long as you aren't making 90 degree turns at 40 MPH it won't really move. Batteries are kinda heavy. I'd get it fixed soon but it's fine to go ahead and install the CAI and install the battery. Just install the CAI and fix the battery problem tomorrow.
