hi all.

i pick up a pair of customer headers 2day on a bit of a gamble. why a gamble you say? cause there isnt much info about them. apparently there customer made from a place here in Adelaide, Australia called exhaust techniques and thy came off a 1.8L beta 1 which was in an excel.

as they came off a beta, so they will bolt right on.

at the bend where its just the one pipe, its 1.75 inch, after the bend (just before the flex) its 2inch and after the flex its 2inch

questions:

1) where are my shoes (been missing since this morning)
2) the cat comes after flex?
3) hiflow cat worth it? im hearing no a lot, but i want a 2nd opinion
4) what size piping should i go for? im hearing 2.25inch a lot (except mad john, he says 2.5)
5) should i get the piping between where the 4 come together and the flex replaced with larger (as per the question above). at the narrowest point its 1.75 inch. is this even possible to replace?

cheers

Hi mate - can't help you on the shoes issue smile.gif

The headers look very similar to the XSPower system I have - and my cat is located after the flexy section. If this is going on an FX (RD1) coupe then you will be able to secure the cat to the place where the front end of the exhaust midsection hangs from. Here's a pic of mine:

I used a standard cat that I got off a Skoda (I think) - just found the largest one that would fit in the space available and grafted it in. Welded a hanger in place to support it and job done... I didn't bother with the sportscat, the system I have is very freeflowing, and I wanted to keep some backpressure... For the rest of the system - I'd go with 2 1/4" pipe - I got the 2.5" and while that is all well and good for the bhp it kills the torque - smaller bore midsections seem to provide better torque and only cost you a few horses... I'd leave the manifold itself alone, personally - but I'd have thought it would be possible to do as you say...

Hope this helps, mate...

The bend is 1.75 because it is pressure bent. That is the most common type in the US. Couple members here have magnaflow cat converters and there are ENDLESS threads about exhausts to read.

Your shoes are wherever you left them.
