Header wrap etc.....

Can anyone reccomend what kind of heat wrap to use? and some pointers on how to install them. I also heard something about "painted" wrap. Also some pointers I should give to my exaust shop about installing a catback. (ie. bracket placement) I think I am going with the carsound cat (assuming I know which one you guys were getting on the group buy) an Apexi N1 and 2.5" piping. W/ a 4-1 header. Should I wait to wrap the header or I was thinking of wraping the header before I installed it myself. Thanks. Also is 2.5" too big for a serious NA modded engine? ie cams and ecu w/ headwork.

as far as heat wrap, I use thermo-tech, it rocks. You can check out what I did and how I used it this weekend when I put in my exhaust.

Here is something I ran across. Can anyone verify this?

Well from a few more places on the net I found that wrapping headers isn't a good idea. So my next question is is the SR headers coated?

Heat wrap does NOT look pretty. So if you are looking for something "show worthy", then ceramic coating is your only option.
Heat wraping does have it's drawbacks, not doubt about it. However the main reason people use it, is that it is cheaper than ceramic coating. When you go budget...you have comprimises. If you want to go show, expect to pay.
Ceramic coatings are superior to heat wrap in every respect. They last longer, look better, and have no adverse effect.
He also brings up an excelent point at the end

Some other considerations about the coatings. Once the header is coated, it's permanent. That means that if you screw up your header, it is not an ease job to repair and most header companies do not want to even attempt a repair. The coating permeates into the header material which makes welding processes on a coated material less than adequate. This is why you always coat the headers last, after all modifications to the header are made, and you are 100% sure the header will fit your vehicle.
In other words, have any 02 sensor threaded holes welded in place first. THEN get them ceramic coated.[ March 10, 2002, 03:29 PM: Message edited by: Random ]
