Default HDK ECU......

Whats the deal with it?

For a 2001 5 speed 2.0 DOHC Tiburon with complete exahust and complete bolt on induction.
What kind of gains would be seen by adding this $400.00 ECU?

It doesn't fit USA spec ECU's. It is next to impossible to just plug in an ECU and gain HP in a N/A car.

How are they going to possibly know what mods you have and how those mods affect your motor. These are the things they would need to know to tune a chip for your car.

Your best bet is go with an S-AFC for about $250 to $300 and spend $120 to get it dyno tuned.

Well, yes Random.

From the site, they word is as a direct "Plug and Play" ECU.
Yes, PNP ECU's do exsist, my cousin installed one on his 1997 Neon last summer with my help. http://66.118.73.64/AFXManufacturing/AFXComputers.html
The AFX ECU was exactly what they said. We disconected the battery, than the ECU, than pluged in the new ECU, and reconnected the battery.

The AFX ECU just basicly raises the rev limiter and speed limiter for racing.it also raises the fuel curve and spark for optimal performance. Thats what I assumed the HDK ECU did.

As far as the AFC, I'm still debating that. I was hoping that the HDK ECU would be a direct swap so no guess work was involved (plus the pain of getting the damn thin how you want it). Ohh well.......keep on lookin I guess. frown

TWO WORDS!! DONT BOTHER!!!
LISTEN to what Random is saying and purchase a S-AFC which can be Tuned 20 times better than a chip because its tuned to your application!
Also,i had the ECU sent o me last year and it was the wrong one.I believe it was the Korean and Australian ECU!!
PLUS HDK SUCKS IN TERMS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAITING YEARS FOR YOUR PRODUCT TO BE RECIEVED IN THE MAIL>
So all this said DONT BOTHER

croat-

I'm not debating the point that companies sell "tuned" ECU's for various different applications. I'm stating that in N/A cars, they do not significantly affect performance.

I'd love to see your friend with the neon do a before and after ECU dyno run to see if the ECU actually made any more power, or just removed the speed limiter and raised the RPM limit.

My Cousin's Neon will be getting a Dyno soon (next month). If you want to see it in person, check us out at Carslile in May. He is running a Hahn Stage II turbo and a few misc bolt ons. After it was installed it did run worlds better, plus rid the rev/speed limiter.

As far as the N/A cars with chips, makes sense.
I was just seeing if there was an easier route

You're saying he got a chip, for the standard ECU which is made for N/A...on a turbo setup.

Didn't the turbosetup come with some form of ECU itself?

Or did he replace the N/A Stock ECU with a ECU specific to that turbo kit.

No.
He bought a aftermarket ECU.
The turbo set-up didnt come with a ECU.
He went from a OEM ECU to the AfterMarket ECU (link is above a few replies).

What would be the realistic gains from a S-AFC? I'm seriously thinking of dropping the cash this month but only if its worth the time. What do you think, Random?

Any problems with using it on a '03 Tibby?
