Ok, so i got my car in my garage right now with the New GT headers in place and the entire exaust on. Now I need a cat. The one thats on the old exaust may not come off. My dad took it to work and was going to cut the bolts off but then we would have to drill the studs out and that would just suck. When he gets home in 30mins were going to try and use his impact gun to get them off. If we cant what do i do? I called hyundia and they said i'd have to basically order the entire exaust because it comes as one piece which would cost arould $800-900. So i called autozone and they do carry them but dont have them in stock. Meineke said they could probably get one but the place they usually get them from is only open until 12 on sundays and i'd have to wait until monday. They do however have a cat for the 1st Gen Tib. So i have a few questions.

1.What can i do?

2. Do the 1st and 2nd gen tibs have basically the same exact cat or no?

3. Whats the diffence between a normal cat and a high flow cat? Where can i get one? Is it worth getting?

Try to cut bolts and studs. Then drill holes. Then when you install it - use new bolts and nuts.

High flow cat makes less resistance in exhaust, so more exhaust gases can easier get out from engine = INCREASE IN HP.

Forget about the stock cat. Get an aftermarket one and there's several available such as Carsound and Random Technologies. They can be expensive so I would look on ebay. You'll more then likely have to extend you O2 senosor wires when you do this but don't fret, it's easy to do. Now I'm assuming your car has only one cat, right? Some Tibs come with Cali emissions and have two cats.

Yea, my car only has one cat. I'd like to go w/ a highflow cat but i have no idea where i would get one around here. Especially today! I Just called midas and i've got a guy trying to find one for me and he's going to give me a call back. (hopfully he finds one) I'll keep you guys updated and pics with the headers/exaust will be comming shortly. Keep in mind after the cat install i still have to go get the bungs made for the O2 sensors.

Call all the custom exhaust places locally. You'll find one man. You definately don't want to use the OEM cat, too restrictive.

What do cats usually cost? midas said they found one for me, but its just a OEM cat and he said its like 570!

If i have to go with a New OEM cat because i cant find a highflow cat and cant get the old one off will the 1st Gen cat fit or No?

$570 is way too much, an aftermarket cat will be much cheaper then that. Do a search on your computer. Try Jegs and call them and tell them you're looking for a cat with your specifications. They'll hook you up or point you in the right direction. They also have free shipping and i think they deliver in 3 days.

I'll break it down for you...

$50 + Ebay = Carsound Cat

Then you wait a week for it to arrive. You should've bought one beforehand because there was no way in hell it would all bolt up and match correctly without problems and having to chop some piping/components off.

FINALLY!

Everything is finished. i got everythign bolted up and everything on properly. Only 1 problem now, Since the headers are so basically touching the fan my exaust has been smoking alittle bit due to the melting of it. The fan itself is fine but a couple pieces of the fan bracket are melting that stick out farther then the rest of the fan. Is there anything i can try and fit between them to reduce heat or should the fan stop melting as soon as the fan isn't touching the header flange?? If thats it i guess i'll just take a dremel to the bracket and trim some plastic off.

Yeah, that would be a good idea, that way you don't have nasty gooey black stuff on your headers.
