Ok so for the last few weeks my car will get stuck in gear. Usually in 5th I hit the clutch and doesn't want to come out. Tap the gas and it comes right out. I was thinking synchos but never have problem going into gear. Any ideas?
|
Clutch fluid is topped off? Sometimes I'll use the gas pedal to rev-match and take my car out of 5th, slowing for a light, and leave the clutch engaged. Is 5th the only gear acting up?
5th is also the gear notorious for breaking under boost, for what it's worth. . . . |
Do you tap the gas after pressing the clutch? That sounds like a clutch problem, tapping the gas should make no difference if clutch pedal is pressed..

I'm gonna try bleeding it this weekend and see what happens. At first it was just 5th and now it does it in 4 and 3rd. It doesn't do it all the time. Been trying to pin point it but all I've come up with is when I'm decelerating.

If clutch doesn't disengage completely, that would make sense, when "engine braking" there will be torque through the transmission and you'd have trouble getting out of gear. When you're just cruising along (low rpm), you should be able to take it out of gear easily even without pushing the clutch at all.

Set the parking brake. Jack up one front wheel. Put the transaxle in gear. With the clutch pedal depressed, the jacked-up wheel should be free to turn. With the clutch pedal released, it should not. This will tell you if your clutch is operating properly or if it's a bit sketchy.
. . . right? Or do I need to go get some sleep? Do you have any difficulties getting IN to gear, if you do not rev-match? |
Nope no problems getting in gear just out. Never got a chance to bleed it but gonna try tomorrow since I've got to change my power steering belt. Broke yesterday on my way home from work. Guess I over tightened it a little. Oops
|
You could just leave the belt off and go round without power steering.
If you do that, be sure to use actual hose clamps in place of the spring clips on the PS hoses so a leaking hose won't wash the grease out of your alternator and water pump bearings mad.gif |
Overtightened the PS belt? You must have some muscle lol, there's no tensioner bolt or anything, just how much you can pull on that pump haha
|
It's hard to get a feel for the PS belt. I used to use a 18" breaker bar to help tighten it without an assistant.
