im not sure where to post this... this is alarm/engine related issue

im starting to get to the point, where i think people might want to take my car. I do live in los angeles....

i was trolling at clubSI and read about a kill switch on the fuel pump
cant start the car unless it has gas

Anyone care to shed light on this?

yes it is a very easy mod. take the power wire from the fuel pump. splice on a switch and locate it anywhere in the vehicle you want. its very simple just like wiring a switch for neons.

you can use the neg wire if you want also. whichever you feel more comfortable with. depending on your pump there are probably 4 wires on it.
let me know how it goes. and if you need any help.

Well now, hold on, I've got something more creative for you A simple fuel pump cutoff is a "known" trap, and so if the potential theif tries cranking the car and it never fires, that's the first place they look.

If you're running the stock ECU, try this instead. Grab the signal wire from the MAF and tap it with your kill switch.

Without MAF reading, the car *will* start, a little unhappy about it, and it will idle funky. The moment you touch the gas pedal, it will die. The reason is because air comes in, but the computer sees an absolute zero and doesn't squirt any more fuel than "idle mode" allows.

Instant stall...

After about the third or fourth time they start this puppy and try to put their foot on the gas, they'll get pissed off and give up

wait a minute though.... if the ECU isnt receiving a MAF signal it will still drive... i know this by experience
random can back me up on this

I drove around for 2 weeks thinking my CEL was on because of my 2k1 elantra 02 sensor sending higher and lower limits... but that wasnt it

My maf was sending NO signal to the ODB thingy

i was driving around like this for a while... car would sometimes stall,... but sometimes it wouldint
sad.gif

only one wire was pulled... but that was enough to make my car drive in limp mode

It depends on what wire you pull...

I know from experience that if you ONLY kill the return signal wire, it A: doesn't throw a check engine light and B: doesn't move

Edit: The reason is because if the MAF is FULLY disconnected, the computer picks up on that and uses an "uber safe" TPS-based fuel map. Horrible horrible performance, but it generally works. This also applies if the MAF power is cut (5V send or -5V ground return)

If you simply pull the return signal wire, the computer still sees the electrical load of the MAF and so assumes it's sending correct data. Funny thing is, ZERO isn't exactly correct smile.gif If you try long enough, it will throw a check engine light for "Low MAF reading" or something, but not MAF failure.

i had a check engine light

thats how we found out the harness was bad

it said low maf reading... but the car was running decent... but nothing campared to how it feels now *fixed*

so the return wire?

ok... ill do some tinkering

wait... once it throws the CEL... wont it go into the drivable limp mode?
so if the bastard keeps trying to steal my car... he will eventually get a POS CEL... which will allow him to drive my car away and use my nitrous?
