Definitly will want an impact wrench when you get to the flywheel bolts. If I remember correctly the bolts have a 17mm head and they are 12point. Engine will want turn if you use a breaker bar unless you can put equal force on all sides of the bolts head. Axles will be a 32mm 6 point castle nut. One more thing make sure you have the right flywheel and pilot hole is the right diameter.

Oh shit, really?

Just getting to the transmission part of my engine swap...

Don't know a thing about breaking a transmission off from an engine. Going to have to look that up in more detail...

HeH....it was for sale along time ago man and no one wanted to buy it, the kit that is.

it was actually all the parts needed to do a auto to manual swap. hyundaicraz sold chris two trannys with everything to switch over. well, i hope it is everything since i got three boxes coming to me. 2 being 87 lbs and one is 44 lbs, we'll see.

It's going to be trial/error on the flywheel. Best case, the flywheel stays on the engine in my driver car. If I have to have custom machining done on a flywheel my wife head asplode.

There is a difference between, what, 98 and 99 model years, where the hole changed size and the thickness of the flange also changed... if anyone has specific information about that dimensional difference, I'd be happy to have it before I get my daily driver torn apart.

Axle half-shafts: hopefully I'll be able to pull them without taking the shafts out of the hubs... I've heard at least 2 folks got it done on this platform without pulling the shafts all the way out of the car. It'd have to be fun, getting the transaxle out with the driver's side half-shaft in there still though. Especially the (larger) automatic.

remember that the flywheel bolts are different in size so you cant use the same ones from the auto to bolt up your manual. not for sure but one of the other is longer. look in the diy section for the auto to manual swap diy. landshark shows this in the diy he did

Remember: I have the whole donor car.

Stocker sounds like the swap its going good. I was wondering if you could take photos of trouble'd spots you run into during this swap. I have landsharks diy but more photos will help before I attempt this task. Might do it next summer, just hard when you have one car and one motorcycle -- car can't be down for to terribly long.

I feel your pain Blue Blaze, I totally wish I could take the Tib away from the road for a while so I could swap in a manual.

Nice job procuring that donor car, I bet thats things going to be a lifesaver and a half!
I'm interested to see how this pans out, I hope to one day have the freedom to call my Tib "the toy" fing02.gif

I put in another 1/2 hour after work today...

Removed MAFS, IAC, the stock resonators and intake piping, disconnected some wires, and started draining the coolant

Then the Mrs. called me in to help paint the kids' bedroom. offtopic.gif laugh.gif

I'd be posting more photos than I have been (0, to date), if I could find (read: somebody pointed me to) a free image host I don't have to figure out, that isn't on a server at my workplace. Suggestions?

I thought about doing a full-on DIY, but it's bad enough being upside down in the car, without having to take photos also. I'll take a few shots of trouble spots as I can. Any specific requests?

The donor car is definitely the way to go if you can score one cheap (rear-end totalled or something). I'm still going to be without my car at least a good solid week-end of thrashing when the time for the swap finally comes. And the end result will be . . .

Stock. lmao.gif
