Default Filter Fiasco!

May not be the best thing to post but after racing a fellow 2.0l Tibby, my freakin' filter came off! eek! I guess the excess wheel hop shook it loose or something. I found it pretty hilarious since after i looked at the poor filter after i noticed something dragging while driving home in my neighborhood. Some grinding noise caught my attention but i thought nothing of it 'cause i thought i picked up trash or something, but my curiousity got the best of me and thank God it did. Poor filter. Its functional still but the side that dragged is mutilated. Oh well. Got any 'solid' ways to mount the piping so it won't come loose?

Rich.

Rich-

the problem you have is due to solid mounting. The engine moves...so must the intake and filter. If you solid mount the filter to the body, the filter or CAI pipe will breack off at one of the joints as soon as you accelerate hard.

Trust me...I'learned this one the hard way at the drag strip....27.18 1/8th mile time after I my CAI broke off and took the MAF with it.

If you can, design the intake to 'flex' and move with the engine. the your filter and CAI should stay put.

I built a bracket for mine that allows for flex...that is after my first solid mount bracket broke due the constant twisting from the engine. My purpose was to keep the pipe from banging against the transmisison and keep it from moving sideways. I accomplished both while incorporating a way to make it flex. I will try and post pictues as it is difficult to just explain. Just gotta go make my digital camera work now.
