Hello,

I am new to the Tiburon. I recently bought a 1999 that is in need of a new 5 speed trans. The car will
be primarily for my daughter to learn to drive in when she is old enough in the next year. In t he mean time
she will be helping me get it into shape.

The car is a 2.0 liter model with 180,000 miles and I was able to find a great deal on a '97 1.8 liter engine and
trans with only 85,000 miles. Unfortunately, the 1.8 did not include the ECU. So I need to know, can I use the 1.8
with the 2.0 ECU? It would seem like the only real issue would be the fuel injectors being larger on the 2.0.
Is that true? If so, can I swap the injectors to the 1.8 and then use the 2.0 ECU?

It would seem likely that with the 2.0 MAF and other sensors that the ECU would be fine with the smaller engine.

Is there a reason why I should not swap in the 1.8. The 10HP stated difference is likely a moot point since the
2.0 is well worn and probably doesn't make the rated HP any more anyway. The 2.0 runs OK and does not smoke
but the previous owner was fond of revving it up and dumping the clutch. The trans finally ruptured and something popped
through the case into the bell housing next to the diff. So the lower mileage 1.8 just seems like a good choice.

Thank you for your help,

KKrofft

The 1.8L ECM is often used in place of the 2.0L ECM. It would surprise me if you couldn't use a 2.0L computer on a 1.8L, and at least get it running.
