Engine Blocks
 

Out of all the engine blocks out there, which is the strongest and can take the most abuse? Iron or aluminum? Aluminum is lighter but what are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Typically iron is considered the better of the 2 from the standpoint of a cast metal, however with billet CNCed aluminum motors becoming more common they are far an away even better than than the best cast motors, but are mostly used on supercars and very high end racing motors.



Then you get into blocks that are die cast like the Toyota ZZ motors

And there are aluminum blocks like the the Chevy LS motors which are largely considered stronger than the older iron iterations.





Really it come down to metal quality and construction type more than base material.
