cruch bent piping has ripples in the bends... mandrel bent piping is straight all the way throught the bends. theres no where for the gases to get caught, slowed down, or otherwise hampered... with crush bent piping theres always going to be disturbances in the flow, pressure, drops in pressure, etc...

if your going for performance do not use crush bent! tongue.gif

to add a little on to that. crushed also lessens the pipes diameter. say you wanted a 2.5" and they crushed it, it would be smaller at the bends, say a 2.25". with mandrel, you would get 2.5" all the way through, even in the bends.

without a doubt. think of it this way. having these things done is like taking exlax. poor comparison i know, but the only one i can think of. if there is nothing to hinder the flow of the gases, then it will breathe better. all the little bumps, the shortening of the pipe in the bends, it all cuts off air flow. like constipation. another bad example i know. but similar for all intents and purposes. kind of exaggerated too for all those that want to be picky with me.

Chris Hines, owner Pro Dyno High Performance in Tempe Arizona, says that if done right, crushed pipe is no different than mandrel bent other than it is cheaper. The crush in the bend makes a negligible difference in the flow of exhaust gasses and while mandrel bend is better in some ways, most of the performance claims over crush bend is greatly exagerated. He has a dyno in his shop to prove it. He will be custom fabricating me a catback exhaust for my Elantra GT and he assures me that on a 2 1/2 inch pipe there will be such a slight crush to the pipe that it will come nowhere near 2 1/4 inches after it is done. As he told me, and I quote, "I build custom exhausts for adults, not crap like the f*cking kids put on there cars." Best of all, I am only paying $300 for it. A mandrel bent custom would cost me upwards of $500. If you can find a GOOD local shop to fab one for you, I say go with the crush bend.

gtsgt is right, i just wanted to be a little sick thats all. its all relative to what you have on your car. the more power the more use from mandrel. for our applications though, i dont think there is that much difference.

Mandrel bent shows substantial gains in forced induction cars. More on turbos than anything else. On a n/a car it would be hardly noticable.

Please, never speak again unless spoken to!

Do you have any idea what your talking about, or do you like being spoon fed complete nonsense from un-educated individuals (they must be the performance gurus because they own a shop!) that base their claims on inacurate dynos?

The point of induction and exahust is to have a even and matched flow of air into and out of the engine. A crush bend acts as restriction, preventing the exahust to exit the engine in the most efficant way possible. Mandrel bends allow you to fully take advantage of un-interupted exahust flow. You have a perfectly symetrical exahust from entry to exit with Mandrel, unlike the inferior crush bends.

Its proven over and over that mandrel bends are far superior to their cheap and cost effective crush bent counterpart. If you are comparing a stock engine in these dynos, the gains of mandrel will not be effectivly shown over crush, as this is the only mod on the car.

As far as price, someones obviously taking you for a nice long ride. I had my 2.5" Aluminum mandrel bent cat-back installed for $200.00. I have contact info for you if you want, and they car do it for any car for about the same price (located in Milwaukee, WI).

What I am curious on, is his obviously good buisness sense? rolleyes.gif Is he too good to accept buisness from the younger crowd that boasts new and expensive cars, or is he strictly for the mullet crowd that that boasts pure muscle cars?

I am also wondering how the best exahust systems in the world are considered "crap like the f*cking kids put on their cars"? He is using a cheap manufacturing process and cheap materials that will only last a few years, as opposed to most "crap" that these kids put on their car that will outlast the car as it is made of stainless steel. Hmmmmmmmmm........great logic!
