Hi, can anyone could tell me what would be the damages in the engine of running lean or rich using nitrous?

could I know if I running lean or rich with a scanner?.

I have to take my car to someplace where i can find out what kind of CEL i got, I know is going to be a po134. but I dont know if this going to have to do with runnning lean or rich, or not.

What o2 sensor is the one with thte Air/fuel ratio? the first or the sencond?

thanks!

I am not too familier with the effects of Nitrous.. but the consequences of running way beyond Stoicimetric are well documented.

Lean cause engine detonation, which under the pressures of either boost or No2, will break piston rings, pistons, rods, and possibly blow the head off of your engine (exageration, you will probably loose the head gasket)

Rich is more insidious. Too much full can clog your cat through melt down due to the excess fuel being fired off by the heat of the cat. It can also wash down the oil from the cylinder walls and contaiminate your oil, which will slowly waste your engine bearings.

mmm..... sound very bad....

what sensor the the responsible of the A/F ratio? smile.gif

Speed-Factor 06-10-2005 12:29 PM

your o2 sensor combined with your MAF are responsible for your A/F.

ohh the MAF right!.. but which one of the two o2 sensors?

the first one or the sencond one?

first. the seocnd is for emissions purposes only.

should be first one but only in closed loop (part throttle, idle, cruising).

second O2 should test how your catalityc cleans the air.

dont forget to mention all the effects of running too rich, (these may be obvious to most of us but hey), loss of power and loss of gas mileage, your not burning all the gas that enters your chamber. Its always better to be a little too rich than a little too lean because detonation is evil. hehe.

sharkev 06-10-2005 09:14 PM

^^ sounds about right. better rich than lean. haha.

but with a wet system the lean is kind of hard right? or doesnt matter?

hamhead 06-10-2005 11:03 PM

If everything is working properly (no fuel leaks, correct fuel nozzle, etc.) than you shouldn't run lean with nitrous. If something goes wrong (too small of a fuel nozzle for the nitrous, incorrectly teed off fuel line) then you will lean out with nitrous and you will go... how you say...

KABOOM.

:o

+ if running very rich - catalytic converter will die much faster.

sharkev 06-11-2005 08:20 AM

ok thanks, so, maybe there is nothing to worry about, everything till now is fine.

and good to me that I dont have catalytic converter. heh

look at the top left side of the piston, thats what happens when you run lean on 18 psi

its not my tibby, its one of my probes, but you get the idea.

then you end up spending lots of money, and get a new motor like this one wink1.gif

hello forged pistons, .30 over, and higher compression for that boost smile.gif

Double_A 06-12-2005 05:33 PM

This is slightly off-topic but it relates well. What would you say the extremes for A/F ratios would be. I know like 16:1 would be very lean, but what about richness?

sharkev 06-12-2005 06:39 PM

ohhh man!.... that look very awful..

hope not to get that way..

^^yeah?

xxxmonoxidechild 06-12-2005 07:18 PM

i doubt you could blow a motor running two rich,

my old mx6 turbo i ghetto built for fun ran insanely rich, were talking if it sat at idle, there would be a pool of raw black fuel behind the muffler. it shot out flames at every shift, yet still ran a 12.63 and believe me when i say it was untuned.

if too much fuel would blow a motor, that car would have blown up years ago.

Double_A 06-12-2005 08:47 PM

Well i would be pretty sure too much fuel wont blow it, but it doesnt mean that too much fuel cant ruin something for good. I would guess it would just stall out if it got too rich. But does anyone know when under boost how much fuel is too much?
