This is actually about my Dodge Ram 1500 V8, but hopefully still something someone can help with? As it says in the title, when my truck idles, the cam gear sort of locks and makes a clicking sound, the belt keeps going, then about 3-5 seconds later the gear starts going again. This explains why for the past few months, on occasion I would hit the gas to get going from a stop, and the RPMs would rev up and the truck would go nowhere, then suddenly jerk forward and get moving. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this to happen?

This does not make sense. The Dodge V8 is a cam in block engine, you should NOT be able to see the cam gear at all. Are you sure you are looking at the cam gear and not something else?
