Beta 1 Intake manifold modification

I want to make more power on my NA Elantra. It's got Head work, high compression, reground cams ect. (6750 rpm limit still)
I guess my plan is to shorten the runners a bit and add some volume to the plenum. Still thinking about how I want to do it. If you have any advice or thoughts I would greatly appreciate it. I know the airram plenum is angled so it's taller on the side with the throttle body. Is this the way to go?

The only thing I've done is roughed in the inside of the plenum. Started knife edging the runners. Went through in a couple spots but that is easily fixed.

Between the tb and the first runner there are some vertical lines cast into the wall. It looks like it's only there to create turbulence. Perhaps to direct air away from the first runners for more even flow to the other cylinder, I guess, idk, I have no idea

The opening is only 54mm. There's not much room to enlarge it. So I cut the flange off, either to reprepostition it farther from the edge or to replace it with a different flange/Throttle body.

Perhaps I could just add some rectangular pieces of aluminium in order to increase plenum volume.

About 12-13 years ago I tried the same thing… made new intake manifold from stainless steel, tried to copy AirRam, made it shorter with larger plenum and 2mm larger BBTB.

Made calculation using VE of the engine, compression, power etc. and power gains was so little… maybe I made wrong calculation and it was stock engine but it wasn’t worth the time and effort in my case :)

Black line is with new intake manifold, red is stock manifold… (it was measured with G-tech back then), it was 2.0 Beta with 100kw (136HP).

Awesome. Thank You for responding, great pictures, even a graph!

I'm sad that you didn't get more power after spending all that time making a whole manifold. I expected there would be a small loss in the low to mid range and a small gain up high. I guess not. It's weird the way power dropped like that after 6500rpm.

It was demotivating… I had more expectations from that manifold :D

After that I turned to turbo and it changed my life lol :D

I wanted to shorten the runners some but they are too close together to be able to weld all the way around without them leaking.

Looks great :)

Well it's been installed for a couple months now. I didn't do any real before and after testing, but the car does pull a bit harder up high now.
