....I think that one of the designers at Hyundai needs to find himself a girlfriend. WTF I swear to God.

I just spent 3 hours wrestling with my transmission, searching alldata and mitchell ondemand5 for an answer to WHY THE HELL MY TRANSMISSION WON'T COME OFF. Come to find out, someone really wanted to be difficult at hyundai and make it to where if you don't know their special little secret, then you're not separating your engine and trans.

This is the worst designed clutch I've ever seen. I've pulled probably hundreds of transmissions and this is a first. I just hope my fork isn't warped from all that prying I did.

lol... just twist the release lever.

It's gotten plenty of people in the past.

I noticed on the 2nd time I did mine, I didn't have to twist it. It just came off because the metal was well lubricated i guess.

your first mistake was not posting the question on the forums. Collectively, we know more than any database or manual can offer you. I'm sure the members on the site together have pulled a couple hundred transmissions apart, and a dozen or so have swapped them from automatics to manual.

Could've saved some time and frustration.

We should be your first resource fing02.gif Search here before starting a project, and I'm sure you'll find some common problems members have experienced. Understandably, you've pulled plenty of transmission apart so you didn't expect to run into a problem, but once you did you should've posted. We have members on here 24/7 and around the globe.

^^ That's why I love this forum. No blasting or flaming, just help. Like it should be.

It's not that I was afraid to post or even search. It's just that I was really thinking that something was seriously wrong with my car!

I ran into a problem like that with an automatic before. (Caterpillar 3116 engine and Allison trans) The torque converter had welded (or twisted) itself to the input shaft of the transmission, and lucky me, the engine was locked up, so I couldn't turn it to get the torque converter bolts out. I removed both the engine and transmission, hooked the engine to one tow truck, the transmission to another, and we had a tractor pull. Still wouldn't budge. I ended up having to rig the transmission up to a boom lift and rotate the entire transmission around while another person removed the torque converter bolts. Can you imagine how many people that took to do that!!! Those drivetrains are HEAVY! On top of all that, the huge mess it made with all that ATF going everywhere.

BTW... where can I find new bushings for my fork? I noticed they were bad before removing the trans.

Also- am I seeing things, or does this transmission not need a pilot bearing?!

when it's stuck.. don't pry until you know why you need to force it off cool.gif
for the bushings go to the dealer, quite cheap and i think they have a new pârt number for them
nah no pilot bearing is required, but i srtongly suggest to use a OEM clutch release bearing with the plastic inner liner
