This is intended as a point of reference for the next time somebody asks about clattering from the top end of their engine subsequent to an oil change with a crappy (read: FRAM) oil filter. Use the OEM filter or a high quality aftermarket filter (Purolator Pure One works for me) or stand by. Your engine oil pressure will be lowered by a low-quality oil filter, and the top end (valve train) will be starved for oil. The hydraulic valve lash adjusters (HLAs) will not have enough oil to them, causing a terrible rattling/knocking noise as they bounce around between the cams and valve stems.

The following text was lifted straight off of hyundaitechinfo.com a few minutes ago, and it is HMA's TSB to let all their dealership service departments know about this problem (not some urban legend or anecdote). Somebody remember to show this to DTN when he gets off his suspension.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

The extra-fun part is when they change your automatic transmission oil and fail to use the SP-III Hyundai recommended fluid . . . and it destroys the transmission. owned.gif

N.E.V.E.R. get your car service at cheap lube shops. Anything a minimum wage mechanic can do, you can do for half the price. If you don't know how, ask RDTiburon.com how to do the work (just make sure to search first, then mention you're new to mechanics so you don't get razzed).
