So it turns out my boyfriends a major idiot and completely f'ed up my head to the point where it cannot be fixed. I am beyond pissed right now. So anyway I need to know if the 1.8 head I have sitting in my garage will work properly if we have to install it onto my 2.0 crank. I dont wanna run into any decompression problems or whatever. Also would it be a good idea to have it port and polished too? Im thinking yes...thats another few hundred he's gonna be shelling out. Asshole.

 

I don't see why it wouldn't. On the compression worry: Isn't the volume difference between the 1.8 and 2.0 on account of the stroke difference? The bore shouldn't be a problem and the cams will differ slightly. I think its the 2.0 drivers who were installing 1.8 cams (or visa versa) so that wouldn't be too much of an issue.

Someone please step in if I've oversimplified!

 

No I think you pretty much sumed it up. I remember reading someplace that the difference was the stroke also. As for the CAMs yeah the 2.0L guys do use the 1.8L intake cam. Both exhaust cams are the same. What exactly did your b/f do to your head to mess it up so bad you have to replace it?

 

On my head is written 2.0 and a bit lower - 1.8.
So I think it will fit.

I belive, that the only difference is - intake cam.
1.8 intake cam should add you a bit hp.

 

he broke 2 cam journal bolts by overtorquing them. He tried drilling them out but that aparently f'ed it up even more.

So alright if this will work Im gonna have to try it.

 

The 1.8L head and the 2.0L head are 100% the same. If you look at them, they have cast into them 1.8L 2.0L. Go check your engine now. You'll find the head has that cast into it regardless if if you have a 1.8L Revision A or a 01 2.0L.

The only difference is the timing on the intake and exhaust cam. 2.0L Exhaust cam is better, 1.8L intake cam is better.

Some of the early Revision A's (2.0L and 1.8L) have an extra cam chain retaining plate.

^ Exactally. When I pulled a 2.0 motor from the junkyard, the head was damaged. I pulled a 1.8 head and matched them up. I too saw the casting marks for both 2.0 & 1.8. Also, the head gaskets are stamped 1.8 & 2.0.

Hey Random, I thought the 2.0 & the 1.8 exhaust cams are the same. From the specs I looked at on HMA they were identical.

I would buy a new head gasket TC.

Port & polish: I would while you have it out. The heads dont flow to well stock.
